Gujarat is one of the fastest growing states as compared to others and is giving a tough competition to his colleagues like Maharastra, Tamil Nadu, etc.

And something new and revolutionary has happened in the state, about which more and more people especially farmers should know about it.

Gujarat Government had launched a yojana last year which totally focuses on two aspects and they are solar energy & farmers.

India seems to be on very primitive stage to accept solar energy but it has to go solar somewhere in the near future to reduce the nature's burden.

And it's obvious that some huge steps must be taken for both of them as it has much much potential it but just need to organise a little bit.

So Gujarat Government, in order to address both the aspects, came in limelight last year's June when they launched Suryashakti Kisan Yojana [SKY] Yojana.

Now going deep in it, the main motto of this scheme is to enable the farmer to produce solar energy for their consumption as well as to sell out the remaining energy [simply surplus] to the government.

By this farmers can become independent of the electricity boards on which they have to depend for electricity to run their farming tools & instruments. So the agriculture sector of Gujarat consumes 26% of the electricity production in the state.

There is a serious issue for farmers that they don't get continuous power supply which affects very hard on their agricultural produce. But by this initiative, this problem can be sought out almost fully.

Talking about costings, it's gonna be a budget-friendly show for all the farmers. Firstly the farmers will be allocated the solar panels as per their needs.

Then the state government will sponsor 60% of the cost, the farmer will have to give 5% and the rest 35% will be provided by a loan which would be "interest friendly" with 4.5 to 6% interest.

This yojana will have 25 years duration, split in parts of 7 & 18 years and in both part farmer will get a different price of the surplus electricity they sell.

In the first 7 years, electricity will be bought at Rs. 7 per unit jointly by Gujarat government and GUVNL [Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd.].

And for the remaining 18 years, electricity will be bought at Rs.3.5 per unit. The power project was started on 2nd July 2018 with 137 farmers and thousands of farmers are aimed to be covered.

The government will spend over Rs. 870 crores on it and has targeted the power generation from the pilot project is 175 MW.
